Mr Pereira is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at The London Clinic and St George’s University Hospital in London, where he is Director of Functional Neurosurgery and set up the deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and chronic pain service in 2016.  He launched the state of the art deep brain stimulation service at the London Clinic in 2017, performing its first surgery in May that year.

After receiving a psychology degree at Cambridge University, he studied medicine at Oxford University. He then trained in neurosurgery for a decade at Oxford with fellowships in deep brain stimulation and pain neuromodulation, before an orthopaedic complex spinal surgery fellowship at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London.

He is a Senior Lecturer at St George's, University of London, Visiting Professor at the University of Porto and has been Hunterian Professor of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and awarded prizes for excellence from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and US Congress of Neurological Surgeons.  He has been invited faculty, chairing sessions and speaking, at the World and European Societies of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, the Society of British Neurological Surgeons and the European Association of Neurological Surgeons.

He has special interests in deep brain stimulation for movement disorders and pain, surgeries for severe chronic and cancer pain, spinal cord and dorsal root ganglion stimulation for pain and complex spinal surgery.

Mr Pereira is an active academic.  He has published 120 scientific papers, mostly in deep brain stimulation, many book chapters including the basal ganglia chapter of Gray’s Anatomy and two books.  He is an accomplished educator in charge of neurosurgery training at St George's and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
